Browser extension

What this is

The {{productName}} Chrome extension creates a short link for the page you are on (or a link you right-click) and copies it. It uses a workspace API key — the same keys as the Developer API.

Before you start

  • API access is on your plan.
  • You are the workspace owner (only owners can create API keys).
  • Chrome or Edge (Manifest V3).

Steps

  1. Create an API key under Workspace Settings → Developer API. Copy it once.
  2. Load the unpacked extension from the extension/ folder (chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked), or install it from the Chrome Web Store when it is published.
  3. Open Options from the toolbar icon.
  4. Keep the API base as Cloud (https://api.linkchime.com) or enter your self-hosted API origin.
  5. Paste the key and click Save and test.
  6. On any http/https tab, click the toolbar icon → Create & copy, right-click the page or a link, or press Alt+Shift+L.

What happens next

The short URL is copied to the clipboard. Recent links from this device appear in the popup. Open a created link in the app from the success row when you need Insights or further edits.

Optional fields in the popup: title, custom slug, and a verified custom domain. The default domain can be set in Options.

Self-hosted instances

Change API base URL and Short link base URL in Options. Chrome will ask for permission to that origin once. The short-link base is used when the link has no custom domain — it is not always the same host as the API.

Privacy

The key, hosts, and recent URLs stay in chrome.storage.local on this device. Creating a link sends the destination URL (and optional title or slug) to the API you configured. The extension does not inject scripts into web pages. See the privacy policy.
