Password protection
What this is
Require visitors to enter a password before they're redirected to your destination. Useful for private or exclusive content.
Before you start
- Password protection must be available on your plan.
- You have a link open on the Settings tab.
Steps
- Open a link's Settings tab.
- Find Visitor password.
- Enter a password (leave blank for no password).
- Click Save changes.
To remove protection, clear the password field or click Remove password protection, then save.
What happens next
When someone visits your short link, they see a password page. After entering the correct password, they're redirected to the destination.
Social apps that unfurl the link still receive your social link preview card. The password gate applies to people opening the link, not to crawlers fetching Open Graph tags.
Tips
- Share the password separately from the link (for example in a private message).
- Password-protected links show a lock badge in your link list.
